Elon Musk: There will be more robots than humans in the future

At the World Artificial Intelligence Conference that opened today, although Elon Musk did not come to the scene in person, he still delivered a video speech through the Internet, talking about the Tesla humanoid robot Optimus, autonomous driving, artificial intelligence etc.

He first praised China’s AI industry. He said that if China is determined to do one thing, it will be able to do well, including the AI industry.

Elon Musk believes that now may be the most profound period in human history. Tesla’s humanoid robots are still in the development stage and are in a relatively early stage, but in the future, there will be a lot of robots, the ratio of robots and humans, in Now it seems that a certain stage will exceed 1:1, that is to say, the number of robots on the earth will exceed the number of humans in the future.

Elon Musk said that Tesla’s humanoid robot is still in the development stage, and one of the goals of its humanoid robot is to do these things that humans don’t want to do, so this is quite useful.

“I have made many similar predictions before, and I admit that the previous predictions were not completely accurate, but this time, I think the prediction is relatively close.”

At the “AI Day” artificial intelligence day on October 1 last year, Tesla showed off a prototype of its humanoid robot Optimus. It is noticed that the official announcement shows that Tesla humanoid robots will also appear at the 2023 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai.

Elon Musk believes that with the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology, fully autonomous driving will be possible by the end of this year. In terms of autonomous driving, Tesla is very interested in sharing and licensing its autonomous driving technology to other automakers.

Elon Musk also mentioned that the emergence of generative AI is having a very profound effect and impact on human civilization. With the explosive growth of digital computing power, the ratio of machine computing power to biological computing power is constantly expanding.

He said that this means that the computing power gap between machines and creatures is further widening. After a period of time, the proportion of artificial intelligence will become lower and lower. This will be a fundamental and in-depth change.

In Elon Musk’s view, under normal circumstances, a family car is only used for about 10-20 hours a week, and most of the time is lying on its stomach in the parking lot, but for a fully self-driving car, it may use The time will be 50-60 hours a week, and its utilization rate must be five times faster than that of non-autonomous driving vehicles.

“At Tesla, we also want to provide such technology, which is why we are willing to license these fully self-driving technologies to other automakers.”
