Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently tweeted that gasoline cars will not be able to escape the fate of the steam engine, and believes that their value is much lower than people think. He said, “Soon we will look at gasoline cars the same way we look at steam engines” and “the residual value of gasoline cars purchased today will be much lower than people think”.

Then, a user posted a stalker picture (meme) saying that Elon Musk in 1995 was fixing his old BMW, while Elon Musk in 2022 is going to “fix” the 160-year-old auto industry.

In July, when Herbert Diess, CEO of Volkswagen, who was pushing for electric cars, left early, Musk commented on Twitter that self-driving electric cars would be the most important and that (driving) a gasoline car without self-driving was like riding a horse and using a flip phone.
Yu Chengdong, Managing Director of Huawei and CEO of Intelligent Vehicle Solutions BU, has also made similar comments. At the 2022 Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau Auto Show, he said bluntly that the era of pure fuel cars will soon end, and that buying a fuel car now is like buying a feature phone in the smartphone era.
