Nikkei News said that one of the semiconductor memory chips DRAM is accelerating price reductions, as the previous generation of products DDR3 type of 4GB memory fell for 2 consecutive months. The June big discount price of the indicator product fell by 10% from the previous month, hitting a new low in 1.5 years.

In terms of the 8GB DDR4 memory as an indicator, June offers were about $2.70 each, down $0.30 (10%) from a year ago, while the smaller capacity 4GB memory was about $2.18 per unit, down 10% from a year ago and 32% from a year ago, and at its lowest level since December 2020.

Analysts believe that PC and smartphone sales will be lower than expected in early spring, and demand-side purchasing intentions are sluggish. Signs of excess inventory are strengthening, and the second half of 2022 also lacks signs of recovery, with views pointing to continued price cuts.

TrendForce previously reported that suppliers’ willingness to give up prices has increased further, with DRAM prices falling by nearly 10% in the third quarter.
