Don’t expect new iMac anytime soon, Gurman says Apple won’t release it until late 2023 at the earliest

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple will not launch a new 24-inch iMac until late 2023 at the earliest.

He said that Apple will skip the M2 chip and directly equip the new iMac with an M3 chip, but that model has not been announced yet.

“I don’t see any indication of a new iMac until the M3 chip comes out, and it won’t go on sale until late this year or next year at the earliest,” Gurman wrote, “so if you want to stick with iMac, you’ll have to be patient. “

According to known information, Apple’s M3 chip is expected to be based on TSMC’s latest 3nm process, bringing greater performance and higher power efficiency than the current M2 series.

The M3 chip is also expected to be used in the new MacBook Air, which is rumored to launch in the second half of 2023, and possibly in some future versions of the 13-inch MacBook Pro and Mac mini.

In retrospect, Apple last updated the iMac in April 2021 with the M1 chip and a new ultra-thin design in a choice of seven colors, the only new iMac currently available, as the Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro have all been discontinued in the last two years.

In addition, Gurman previously said there would be a return to larger iMacs, but he didn’t share any new information about that possibility today.
