Dell Technologies Inc. will cut about 6,650 jobs in the face of plunging demand for personal computers, becoming the latest technology company to announce layoffs, according to Bloomberg.

Dell’s co-chief operating officer Jeff Clarke wrote in a memo that the company is experiencing “continued erosion and an uncertain outlook” in the marketplace. The layoffs represent about 5 percent of Dell’s global workforce, according to a spokeswoman for the company.

According to Trueup, 175 technology companies have laid off employees so far in 2023, affecting 57,914 people, while 1,525 technology companies have laid off employees in 2022, affecting more than 230,000 people.
