Total fixed wireless access (FWA) revenue, including RAN equipment and CPE revenue, will still grow 35 percent in 2022, driven by subscriber growth in North America, said a new Dell ‘Oro survey recently.

“Fixed wireless access has become a key component in bridging the digital divide and connecting rural and underserved markets around the world.” Jeff Heynen, vice president and analyst at Dell ‘Oro Group, said, “We also see that FWA can effectively compete with existing fixed broadband technologies, especially with the advent of 5G and other higher throughput, non-3Gpp technologies.”

Additional highlights of the report.

● Global FWA revenues are expected to exceed $5 billion by 2026, reflecting continued investment and subscriber growth in 3GPP and non-3GPP-based network deployments.

● The North American market remains the most dynamic in terms of deployed FWA technology options, with CBRS and other sub-6Ghz options growing alongside 5G NR and 6GHz options.

● Emerging markets such as Southeast Asia and MEA are expected to see long-term subscriber growth due to upgrades to existing LTE networks and demand from economically connected users.

● The satellite broadband market will also be a key driver of broadband connectivity in emerging markets, thanks to low-orbit satellite-based providers such as Starlink, OneWeb and Project Kuiper.
