Chery Automobile and paint supplier PPG jointly built a digital color laboratory, which is one of the 300 “Yaoguang laboratories” built by Chery in the field of forward-looking technology.
The main functions of the Chery-PPG digital color laboratory include research and analysis of global popular color trends, research on color preferences of Chinese auto consumers, exterior color design of car bodies and parts, vehicle rendering and digitalization. Technical links such as color review, physical swatch development, color simulation and matching, forward-looking color technology research and development, new coating materials and new process development, new color data extraction, coating process performance verification, subjective and objective evaluation and benchmarking acceptance.
The joint laboratory is expected to launch more than 100 new colors for Chery every year, covering the color development needs of 30 models. According to Dr. Gao Xinhua, Executive Deputy General Manager of Chery Automobile, PPG’s color database and rendering technology combined with Chery’s self-developed data extraction technology will shorten the color development cycle by one time.
Chery previously announced the “Yaoguang 2025” forward-looking technology strategy, which will focus on the four core areas of Mars architecture, Kunpeng power, lion technology, and Galaxy ecology, and focus on 15 core technologies such as platform architecture, three electrics, intelligent driving, and Zhiyun platform. , build 300 “Yaoguang laboratories” to support cross-science and cross-border technology research.
