Meta’s official website issued a document, that Facebook and Instagram will provide ad-free subscription services in the European Union, the European Economic Area and Switzerland, starting in November to provide users with a choice: continue to use these personalized services with ads-free of charge, or subscribe to shield ads. With a subscription, user information will not be used for advertising.

Depending on where it is purchased, the web version costs 9.99€ per month (currently about RMB 77), and the iOS and Android versions cost 12.99€ per month (currently about $101). iOS and Android pricing takes into account the fees charged by Apple and Google through their respective purchasing policies.

Subscriptions will apply to all associated Facebook and Instagram accounts in the user’s account center, regardless of where they are purchased.

Prior to March 1, 2024, the initial subscription covers all associated accounts in the User Account Center. Beginning March 1, 2024, each additional account in the User Account Center will be subject to an additional fee of €6 (currently approximately RMB 46) per month on the web and €8 (currently approximately RMB 62) per month on iOS and Android.

It is understood that the EU regulation could limit Meta’s ability to serve personalized ads to users without their consent and harm its main source of revenue.

The option for users to purchase an ad-free subscription balances the requirements of European regulators while providing users with choice and allowing Meta to continue to serve everyone in the EU, EEA and Switzerland.

According to foreign media TechCrunch, Instagram head Adam Mosseri said that the Threads API is under development.

Mosseri expressed concern about publishers releasing a lot of content, thus overshadowing creator content, “We’re working on it. My concern is that it’s going to mean more publisher content, not more creator content, but That still seems to be something we need to get done.”

The news publications have been relying on third-party tools and integrations with different social networks to automatically publish content on platforms such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook. Due to the lack of APIs available on new platforms like Threads, publishers must manually publish content, which is not ideal for news organizations that publish large numbers of articles every day.

While Mosseri is concerned about publishers pushing large amounts of content through API integrations, creators also need different tools to publish content in various formats. If there are API integrations, it will be easier for developers to develop features that are appropriate for the platform.

Zuckerberg previously said on the quarterly earnings call that Threads still has nearly 100 million monthly active users and reiterated Meta’s goal to build Threads into a “public conversation app with 1 billion users.

Meta’s social platform Threads development momentum is very strong, today in Meta’s quarterly earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed the latest data on Threads and said the service currently has “nearly” 100 million monthly active users. Zuckerberg.

Threads launched in July, when the app attracted 100 million users in just a few days. While that growth rate is expected to have slowed down, as is the case with any product that goes viral quickly, Zuckerberg said the service still has nearly 100 million monthly active users.

It’s worth noting that Threads is not yet live in the European Union.

According to The Verge, Zuckerberg also reiterated Meta’s goal of making Threads “a public conversation app with a billion users” and “a bit more positive” than some of its competitors. positive” than some of its competitors. According to Zuckerberg, Threads is well on its way to achieving that goal.

I’ve long believed that there should be a public conversation app with a billion users that is a bit more positive than some of the others,” he said. I think if we stick with it for a few more years, then we have a good chance of realizing our vision.”

This is clearly a provocation to Twitter (currently known as X), which is often criticized for the negative energy of its presence. Elon Musk is also apparently upset about Threads, and he’s threatening to sue Meta for hiring some of the employees he fired.

Formerly known as Twitter’s social platform X officially launched the audio and video call function, users will receive a notification when opening the X application: “Audio and video calls are coming!” However, Elon Musk says this is still a beta version.

In the app’s settings, there’s also an “Enable Audio and Video Calls” switch, which allows users to turn on the feature and choose who they’d like to use it with, including several options that allow users to receive or initiate audio and video calls from contacts, people they follow authenticated users or any of the three. Calls. Users can make a call by opening a private message with another user, selecting the phone icon in the top right corner of the screen, and then selecting Audio or Video Call.

Elon Musk has been hinting at adding audio and video calling to the platform as part of his goal to make it a “universal app.” Elon Musk recently said the feature would be available on iOS, Android, Mac, and PC, and “doesn’t require a phone number.”

It’s unclear whether X has already rolled out the audio and video calling feature broadly, or whether it’s available to non-Premium users.

In the news, this afternoon, X platform (formerly Twitter) Elon Musk posted a message announcing that two new subscription services are coming to the platform.

Elon Musk introduced one of the lower-priced versions, which has all the features of membership but without the reduction of ads, and a higher-priced version that removes ads.

Earlier this month, Twitter blogger Aaron learned from digging deeper into the X platform’s code that the platform’s premium subscriptions will soon be broken down into 3 tiers: Basic, Standard, and Plus.

For those who buy the Basic subscription, the For You stream will still contain full ads; for the Standard subscription, it will be “half ads,” with an unknown percentage; and for the Plus subscription, there will be no ads at all. The Plus version has no ads at all.

Global traffic to the X platform’s websites fell 14% year-over-year in September, with U.S. traffic down 19%, according to data released this month by market intelligence firm Similarweb. The number of iOS- and Android-based monthly active users on mobile devices in the U.S. also fell 17.8% year-over-year. However, Elon Musk’s personal page on the platform was up 96% year-over-year through last month, according to the platform’s data.

According to Reuters reports, Australian regulators imposed a fine of 610,500 Australian dollars (currently about RMB 2.814 million) on X (Twitter) for failing to cooperate with an investigation into anti-child abuse practices.

The regulator said X’s violations were more serious, including failing to answer questions about the time it takes to respond to reports of child abuse, the steps it takes to detect child abuse on live streams, and the number of its content reviews, safety and public policy staff.

X made it clear to regulators that it had cut 80% of its workforce globally and had no public policy staff in Australia, compared to two public policy staff before Elon Musk took over.

Eliminating child exploitation is the number one priority”, Musk said in a post after acquiring Twitter. But the Australian regulator said that when X was asked how it would prevent child grooming on the platform, it responded that it was “not a service used by a large number of young people.

X said it dropped its proactive detection of child abuse in public posts after Musk’s acquisition.

Bloomberg — Vietnam has completed a nearly five-month-long investigation into TikTok, with authorities finding that it violated laws on e-commerce, information security and child protection, according to a report in the Business Times.

The inspection team, which included representatives from six ministries, said TikTok violated a number of Vietnamese regulations on content sharing and e-commerce services. Le Quang Tu Do, director of the Department of Radio, Television and Electronic Information, noted that TikTok’s Singapore-based division manages the company’s services in Vietnam, rather than being a legal entity in the country.

Vietnam’s latest draft decree regulates the management of Internet services and online information, stipulating that foreign cross-border information providers must install at least one server in Vietnam to meet data storage and censorship requirements. Providers must temporarily lock content related to user complaints within 48 hours; and block and remove infringing content and services within 24 hours of receiving a legal request.

The ministry found that TikTok Singapore stored illegal information, such as fake news, incitement to violations, and content harmful to children, on local servers in Vietnam, and that users’ copyrighted content and children’s privacy were not properly protected.

Do said TikTok Singapore and its two offices in Vietnam need to resolve these violations within 30 days.

TikTok has about 50 million users in Vietnam, according to DataReportal data. In the second quarter of this year, TikTok Shop, the online shopping arm of TikTok, surpassed Lazada with a 20% market share, becoming the second-largest e-commerce platform in Vietnam after Singapore’s Shopee.
