On Thursday, Canonical released a beta version of its Ubuntu 22.10 (Kinetic Kudu) operating system in order to fully test it before its official release on October 20, 2022. 9to5Linux notes that the new version uses the 5.19 Linux kernel. But in addition to GNOME 43, Canonical also offers a variety of other flavors of Linux desktop environments.

It is planned that Canonical will officially accept Ubuntu Unity in October. Other official graphics environments include.

"● KDE Plasma 5.25 for Kubuntu / Ubuntu Studio

● Xfce 4.17 and LXQt 1.1.0 for Xubuntu / Lubuntu

● Bundgie 10.6.2 and MATE 1.28 for Ubuntu Bundgie / Mate

● and UKUI 3.1 for Ubuntu Kylin"

In addition, PipeWire and WirePlumber, which come with the system, become the default audio service/session and policy managers on Ubuntu 22.10.

The pre-installed compiler is GCC 12, which provides out-of-the-box support for the WebP image format, along with other component and application updates.

Ubuntu 22.10 beta uses the Linux Kernel 5.19 base layer.

"● Secure nested paging for AMD is now supported in new versions of the kernel.

● Initial support for the DragonCore LoongArch (RISC) processor instruction set architecture has been provided.

● Includes the ZSTD file compression algorithm, ARM Scalable Matrix Extensions (SME), and many other modifications."

If all goes well, Ubuntu 22.10 will arrive on October 20, 2022. For those who can’t wait, you can download the beta install images for each version from the official website.

However, as it is not yet stable and may contain unexpected bugs, we don’t recommend installing it blindly on production machines, and please remember to back up your data.
