Canon today officially announced the RF series first “cookie” lens RF28mm F2.8 STM, price of 2199 CNY.

Canon RF28mm F2.8 STM is the smallest and lightest wide-angle fixed-focus “cookie” lens in the RF lens group, weighing only about 120 grams and measuring only about 24.7 mm in length when the lens is stored, making it a highly mobile and portable shooting combination with the EOS R series full-frame or APS-C format lightweight models. The first model in the Canon RF series.

The RF28mm F2.8 STM lens has a focal length of 28mm and a large aperture of F2.8. When paired with a full-frame EOS R series camera, it can shoot subjects such as street photography, architecture, landscapes, night scenes, flowers, etc. When paired with an APS-C format camera, the equivalent focal length is about 45mm, allowing you to take pictures of street photography, landscapes, night scenes, flowers, food, portraits, children, pets, and other subjects. The lens can be used with VPSC cameras.

The lens, which Canon says can be used for vlogging, is equipped with a geared STM stepper motor and also supports focus breathing correction, and features a 6-group, 8-blade optical design with three aspherical lenses.

RF28mm F2.8 STM has no optical stabilization mechanism, and when paired with an EOS R series camera with body stabilization, it can achieve a maximum of 7 levels of hand shake compensation.

The Canon RF28mm F2.8 STM lens has an MSRP of $2,199 and will be available for purchase in early July 2023
