Canon plans to launch dual versions of RF 35mm F1.2L lens

According to the latest news from thecamerainsider, Canon may release two versions of the RF 35mm f/1.2L USM (or f/1.4L) lens, which is expected to be released before the end of 2023.

The original text is as follows:

A sales representative responsible for distributing Canon lenses to certain retailers in specific countries mentioned the RF 35mm f/1.2L USM and said that two versions of this prime lens will be announced before the end of 2023.

They believe that if the Canon RF 35mm F1.2L USM is released, it will likely become the best-selling L prime lens. In fact, rumours about this lens have surfaced from time to time since the RF mount was introduced five years ago, and it now looks like it should be announced before the end of the year.

Of course, this is the first time we’ve heard about a dual version, so specific details about the lens aren’t available yet.

Referring to Canon’s previously launched dual versions of the RF85mm F1.2L USM lens, the new 35mm lens is also expected to have a “smooth defocus” version, also known as the DS version, which may cost several hundred dollars more than the regular model.

In addition, considering that Canon has previously applied for a patent for the 35L with two apertures, we are currently unable to determine whether the 35L is f/1.2 or f/1.4.
