Following market research agencies IDC and TechInsights, another agency, Canalys, also announced the global tablet PC situation in the first quarter of 2023.

The report shows that global tablet shipments in the first quarter of 2023 will be 31.7 million units, a year-on-year decrease of 17.7%, which is the lowest shipment since the outbreak of the epidemic in the first quarter of 2020.

Attached is relevant data as follows:

Apple shipped 12.4 million units in the quarter, down 17% year-over-year.

Samsung shipped 6.72 million units in the quarter, down 14.4% year-on-year.

Amazon shipped 2.5 million units in the quarter, down 29.9% year-over-year.

Lenovo shipped 1.89 million units in the quarter, down 37% year-over-year.

Huawei shipped 1.61 million units in the quarter, down 4.3% year-on-year.

Himani Mukka, research manager at Canalys, said:

After the Christmas shopping season, consumer demand for tablets can be expected, but shipments are still lower than expected.

In addition, there is more structural adjustment as a large number of demand drivers during the pandemic have largely disappeared. As a result, tablet suppliers and retailers are prioritizing high inventory levels as they recalibrate their expectations for milder, more predictable demand.
