BYD: intends to build factories in Europe instead of focusing on taking over other plants

The Wall Street Journal reported earlier that Ford Motor was in talks with BYD about selling a German plant.

However, BYD Executive Vice President Li Ke said in an interview with Bloomberg that the company is exploring building its own factories in Europe “rather than focusing on other companies’ facilities.

Li Ke also said that BYD does not yet have a target country for establishing facilities, but that the company is conducting feasibility studies and hopes to have a solid sales and dealer network and service centers in Europe to ensure consumer confidence in the brand.

German business media “AutoWeek” previously reported that, in addition to BYD, Ford OEM and auto parts supplier Magna and Dutch automaker VDL Nedcar are also interested in buying the Saarland plant in Germany.
