BYD is considering building a new battery super plant in Spain, becoming the latest company to join the race to build a battery plant in Spain after Volkswagen / Seat (already underway), Envision, Inobat and Tata Motors, according to Spanish newspaper Expansion.

Spain is one of the top five automotive markets in Europe and an important stop in BYD’s internationalization strategy map for passenger cars. Since 2016, BYD has been conducting pure electric bus business in the Spanish market, and its footprint has spread to all major cities in Spain, including Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and so on.

As previously reported, BYD Passenger Cars has officially entered the Spanish market and launched three pure electric models, Han, Tang and BYD ATTO 3, simultaneously.

BYD sold a total of 13,312 new energy passenger cars overseas in March 2023, with a total installed capacity of about 9.891GWh of new energy vehicle power batteries and energy storage batteries in March, and a total cumulative installed capacity of about 26.991GWh in 2023.
