BYD builds fleet to go overseas: To spend nearly 5 billion yuan to place an order for shipbuilding

According to Caixin reports, it was learned from various sources that BYD affiliated companies will order 8 ro-ro ships that can load 7,700 vehicles at a shipyard in Yantai, Shandong, with a total cost of nearly 5 billion yuan. Among them, 6 ships are basically determined to be built, and the other 2 ships are option orders.

Data shows that in September 2022, BYD’s new energy vehicle sales reached 201,259; overseas sales of new energy passenger vehicles totaled 7,736. In addition, BYD sold a total of 1,180,054 new energy vehicles from January to September 2022, a year-on-year increase of 249.56%.

BYD has stated that the company’s new energy vehicle operations have covered 6 continents, more than 70 countries and regions, and more than 400 cities. In addition, BYD also debuted in Europe this month with a new energy passenger vehicle product matrix, which is expected to be launched and delivered in Europe in the fourth quarter of this year.

Earlier this month, BYD announced the signing of a cooperation agreement with global car rental company SIXT. According to the agreement between the two parties, SIXT will purchase at least 100,000 new energy vehicles from BYD in the next six years. A variety of BYD new energy vehicles will serve SIXT customers, including the newly launched Yuan PLUS in Europe. Vehicle deliveries will begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
