BYD Auto’s Brazilian plant opens, expected to start production by the end of the year to early next year

BYD announced the construction of a large production base complex consisting of three factories in the city of Camassari, near Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. BYD Brazil production base complex officially started construction.

The production base complex is 50 kilometers away from Salvador, the capital of Bahia State. The project investment is 2.9 billion reais (Note: approximately 4.126 billion RMB). It mainly produces electric vehicles and processes lithium iron phosphate batteries. It will be More than 5,000 new jobs have been created locally.

The project is expected to be put into production from the end of this year to the beginning of 2025. The annual production capacity in the first phase is expected to reach 150,000 vehicles. The initial production models include BYD Dolphin, Dolphin MINI (Seagull), Song Plus, and Yuan Plus.

Li Ke, executive vice president of BYD Co., Ltd., said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters last year that BYD will build its (Brazil) production base into a place characterized by innovation and high technology, and bring BYD’s technology and innovative ideas.

In addition, BYD has also launched the BYD Dolphin MINI model in Brazil and Mexico, with a 405-kilometer range model priced at R$105,800 (approximately RMB 150,500) after subsidies. Several other models have been on the market before, all of which are imported cars.

BYD hopes to achieve further results in the Brazilian market, especially in the field of high-end cars and electric vehicles. To this end, BYD has invested a lot of money in media promotion.

According to reports, BYD will invest approximately 100 million reais in advertising in 2023, accounting for one-fifth of its total investment in establishing a dealer network. BYD Brazil chairman Alexandre Baldy said this number will continue to grow in 2024.

Public information shows that BYD’s Brazilian branch was established in 2014. In addition to selling zero-emission electric forklifts, vans, trucks and passenger cars in the Brazilian market, the company has three factories in production and is also responsible for two rail projects in El Salvador and São Paulo.
