Bugatti’s first electric supercar won’t hit the market until after 2030

Bugatti will not launch its first all-electric supercar until after 2030. The brand will focus on hybrid vehicles throughout the 2020s. In an interview with AutoCar, Bugatti design chief Achim Anscheidt said the automaker is currently “looking at the next step in hybrid models” and that “everything else is too far away.”

The hybrid model in question could be the successor to the mighty Chiron. According to reports, the car will be launched in 2027, and the price may exceed 5 million US dollars (about 35.65 million yuan).

Bugatti is now part of a joint venture with electric supercar manufacturer Rimac. So the news that an electric Bugatti won’t be around for another 10 years or so may come as a surprise to many. After all, in 2021, Mate Rimac said that a fully electric Bugatti would be available within that decade. However, that now seems unlikely. Bugatti deputy design director Frank Heyl says his team is only focused on “hybrids in this decade”.

Bugatti-Rimac was founded in November 2021. The deal effectively removes Bugatti from the VW Group’s portfolio. However, the Volkswagen Group will still retain some ownership through its subsidiary Porsche. Porsche holds a 45 percent stake in the new Bugatti-Rimac venture.

Meanwhile, deliveries of the Rimac Nevera are underway. The electric supercar, known in its prototype phase as the “Concept Two,” has a top speed of 258 mph (about 415.21 km/h) and can reach 60 mph (about 96.56 km/h) from 0 in 2 seconds. The 1,914-horsepower Nevera has been in production since July, and the first electric supercar will be delivered to 2016 F1 World Champion Nico Rosberg.
