Chen Junsheng, chairman of Acer Computer, analyzed that AIGC (generative AI) will be more widely used in productivity improvement, optimization and other aspects. These usage scenarios bring rigid demand for laptops.
Shi Zhenrong, the founder of the Acer brand, believes that if the current AI laptops really want to provide “new value”, they do not rely on software applications, but rely on new AI-specific chips, software, and even new usage scenarios and experiences. It is the new direction of PC development”.
In terms of specific product planning, Acer has already cooperated with CPU manufacturers, and it is expected to import AIGC or other AI applications to terminal devices. Related AI laptop solutions will be launched in 2024 and 2025.
ASUS
Shi Chongtang, chairman of ASUS Computer, also agreed with the view that “AI will drive a new wave of machine replacements”, and believes that AI is a “breakthrough” in the foundation of computers and a core technology. “The most advanced technology must be developed at present, and its impact will be very far-reaching.” Shi Chongtang also cited Microsoft and Google as examples. The two major companies are currently actively introducing AI into their own productivity tools.
It is noticed that Microsoft launched a public test of its AI assistant Windows Copilot in June, which can help users in various basic operations and tasks, including answering questions, summarizing information, editing documents, adjusting computer settings, and more. Google is also diving into generative AI technology in its search engine, Google’s vice president of search Cathy Edwards said “AIGC will make search smarter and simpler”.
hp
Hewlett-Packard Computer CEO Enrique Lores also said that he is currently developing a PC that supports AI capabilities, saying that he is currently working with all key software service providers and chip suppliers to redesign the PC architecture.
The industry expects that 2024 will drive a new wave of phone replacements. Companies such as OpenAI, Nvidia, and AMD have brought huge business opportunities to AI, but currently only benefit from the server market. Acer, HP and other brands will enable laptops to have AI capabilities, and the market impact will begin to ferment as early as 2024.
However, the current PC industry and research institutions still do not have a specific consensus on the specific concept of “AI laptops”. That is to say, the “final interpretation right” of AI laptops is likely to be defined differently by different manufacturers for a period of time.
