With the increasing penetration of electric vehicles worldwide, major car companies have accelerated the pace of transition to electrification, and even BMW is no exception. Recently, according to Bloomberg, BMW Chief Financial Officer Nicolas Peter said that BMW’s electric car deliveries are expected to reach 240,000 to 245,000 units this year, and its electric car deliveries can reach 400,000 units globally next year, as demand performance remains strong.

It can be seen that although currently affected by the recurring epidemic and chip shortage, BMW is still optimistic about its electric car sales, which means that BMW has made electric cars the focus of future development. In fact, the reason why BMW is now vigorously developing electric cars, in fact, has a lot to do with European policy.

At the end of June this year, the EU announced that it will ban the sale of fuel cars in 2035, in such a context, BMW is no longer scrupulous and began to accelerate the layout of the electric car field. It is reported that in 2025, BMW will launch a new pure electric architecture of the “new generation” models, in order to expand BMW’s product lineup in the field of electric vehicles. However, can BMW really succeed in the field of electric vehicles?

Xiao Lei believes that there is still a high probability that it can be achieved. Because compared with the domestic car-making new forces, BMW not only has a complete supply chain but also has excellent research and development capabilities and extremely large sales channels, which is an advantage that some of the current car-making new forces cannot match. However, at this stage, BMW’s disadvantage is also very obvious, that is, the research and development in the field of electric vehicles are relatively lagging behind, like pure electric platform, three electric systems and automatic driving technology and other core hardware is not strong, so there are no outstanding electric cars so that the current BMW iX series sales performance is poor.

However, with the subsequent launch of BMW’s stronger electric cars, this situation will be completely improved. Xiao Lei hopes that in the next few years, BMW can come up with more sincere electric cars, rather than the so-called “oil to electricity” models, otherwise even with the aura of a first-tier luxury brand, sales are not good where.
