Blizzard’s announcement: using AI to imitate a specific style to generate art material

0

After the introduction of AI tools such as Midjourney and ChatGPT, the world is talking about AI and generation systems that use machine learning technology. Some game makers have incorporated this technology into their game designs, and there are even Mod authors using this technology to create original “The Elder Scrolls 4” side quests. The use of AI tools so convenient, 3A game makers are not willing to lag behind. This is not, Activision Blizzard has recently applied for a new patent related.

According to foreign media Gamerant report, Activision Blizzard is looking for a faster and more efficient way to develop games. The new patent they applied for was registered on December 23, 2022, and was officially disclosed on April 27, 2023. According to the patent, Blizzard is looking to use more structured and accurate AI techniques to facilitate the generation of graphics created by AI. This patent means that Blizzard wants to provide existing images to the AI and instruct the system to create or render new images in the same style as specific art, and to enrich the game world by generating art material through AI learning.

The AI can produce a specific art style by simulating an image that already exists. First, the AI will automatically generate a structured image using initial input. Then, the AI will learn techniques and begin to automatically generate patterns. The most important thing is to combine this with the “right amount of detail”, which will greatly save development time and labor when designing large virtual worlds.

But if the materials used by AI are copyrighted, there will be a huge debate about whether this is legal. And the use of AI technology may reduce employment opportunities and even lead to legal problems.
