Average size of passenger car electronic dashboards in China to increase to nearly 10.0 inches by 2024

Car dashboards can be divided into three categories according to their working principles: mechanical dashboards, electronic dashboards (mainly LCD displays) and auxiliary display panels; among them, electronic dashboards are mainly installed in mid-to-high-end cars and new energy passenger cars. According to CINNO Research’s monthly monitoring data of passenger car sales in the Chinese market, in 2020 and 2021, the electronic dashboards of passenger cars in the Chinese market will be installed in 79% and 82%, respectively, with an average size of 8.3 inches and 8.7 inches.

Compared with ordinary dashboards, electronic dashboards have advantages such as better stability, richer display information, diversified styles, and high-end technology. More and more models are equipped with electronic dashboards, and the size of electronic dashboards It is getting bigger and bigger, and it is also widely used in smart cockpits when it is integrated with HUD. Being equipped with electronic dashboards has become an inevitable trend in the development of smart cars.

According to statistics from CINNO Research, the average size of electronic dashboards for passenger cars in the Chinese market in 2020 and 2021 will be 8.3 inches and 8.7 inches, respectively. In Q3’22, passenger car electronic dashboards with a size of 10.0 inches and above accounted for 50% of the total in the Chinese market, a significant increase of 6 percentage points year-on-year. The average size of the electronic dashboard of new energy passenger vehicles in the Chinese market in Q3’22 has reached 9.4 inches, an increase of 0.4 inches year-on-year, mainly due to the sales contribution of new energy passenger vehicles such as BYD Song DM and BYD Han DM.

CINNO Research predicts that with the innovation of on-board display technology and the accelerated development of new energy passenger vehicles in the future, the average size of the electronic instrument panel of passenger vehicles in the Chinese market will exceed 9.0 inches in 2022, and this value will increase to 2.5 inches in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
