Amazon US has listed prices for two upcoming Asus Z790 chipset motherboards, bringing some reference for PC DIYers who are hesitating between AMD/Intel high-end desktop platforms. The first is the relatively affordable Prime Z790-P WiFi model of the two, which targets the AMD-based Prime X670-P motherboard. Although the backplane I/O is slightly inferior, it still offers more PCIe slots.

Due to the lack of Prime X670-P motherboards for the AM5 platform on Meiya, I can only use Newegg’s $289.99 as a reference here.

By comparison, the Prime Z790-P motherboard with the LGA 1700 platform is priced at $249.99, making it a more attractive option for consumers.

The second is the higher-end ROG Maximus Z790 Hero, which is equipped with additional functions such as Thunderbolt 4 and a “ROG Hyper M.2” riser card for PCIe 5.0 SSD, but there is currently no corresponding AM5 competitor. for reference.

It’s priced at $629.99 — on par with the previous-generation ROG Maximus Z690 Hero, which looks pretty much the same after all (only minor differences in backplane I/O). Finally, both Z790 motherboards are said to start shipping on October 20.
