ASE secures exclusive order for capacitive button SiP modules for Apple’s iPhone 16 Series

According to Taiwanese media “Economic Daily”, ASE Investment Holdings once again won a large order from Apple, and exclusively obtained Apple’s new design this year for both sides of the new iPhone 16 series, replacing the existing entities. Large order for capacitive button system-in-package (SiP) modules.

One of the highlights of this year’s new iPhone 16 series is the elimination of the physical volume buttons and power button on both sides of the fuselage, replacing them with capacitive touch buttons. In order to enhance the user experience, a second Taptic Engine motor will be added to provide vibration feedback when the user presses the keys, achieving the goal of disappearing the physical keys on the outside of the iPhone.

Apple wants to remove the physical buttons such as volume buttons and power buttons that have been used in the iPhone for many years. It requires at least two system-in-package modules to integrate capacitive buttons and Taptic Engine motors and other related components. Large orders for related system-in-package modules are made by ASE Investment Holdings won it exclusively.

In order to meet the needs of Apple’s new designs and new orders, ASE’s Kaohsiung factory is fully expanding its production and is expected to enter the phase of heavy shipments in the third quarter.

ASE Investment Holdings has a close relationship with Apple and has many years of supply experience. According to previous reports, Apple split its orders for advanced packaging and chip foundry, becoming the first major customer of ASE’s advanced packaging production capacity.
