Apple’s iPhone 14 / Pro series adds switch-on sound, similar to Mac

Assistive technology expert Steven Aquino has discovered that Apple’s just-launched new iPhone 14 series adds a new accessibility feature that allows the new machine to play a sound on boot and off, similar to the iconic Mac boot sound.

The sound file has been added in iOS 16 RC, and developer Steve Moser notes that the feature will be located in the Settings app under Accessibility — Power On and Power Off Sounds, and is designed to make it easier for users to know if their iPhone is being started up or turned off.

Apple introduced the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max at a special event at the Steve Jobs Theater earlier today, with the two Pro models receiving a major upgrade with the addition of the pill-shaped “Lingering Island The two Pro models received major upgrades, including a pill-shaped “Spirit Island,” a constant on-screen display, a 48-megapixel wide-angle camera, an A16 processor and more.
