Apple will soon test two new ad spots on the App Store

Apple says it will soon test two new ad spots on the App Store to give developers more opportunities to showcase their apps to users. The two spots are the App Store Today page and the “You Might Also Like” area of the app product page.

These two locations will be clearly marked as “ads” and distinguished from other systems and manually recommended content. Apple says

"Apple Search Ads offer developers of all sizes the opportunity to grow their businesses. Like other ad content, the content displayed in these two spots comes only from apps that have been reviewed by the App Store and are subject to the same stringent privacy guidelines."

It’s unclear when Apple will launch the two ad spots, but Apple said it will begin testing them in the near future. Apple said the new ad spots will follow through on the company’s commitment to privacy and transparency. For example, Apple will avoid hyper-targeting to individual and small business users; avoid showing personalized ads to minors, promise never to use any sensitive data, and more.
