Designed for runners and cyclists, Race Route lets users compete against themselves on routes they have completed and recorded as outdoor runs or rides on Apple Watch. Users can race against their best or last time on any regularly completed outdoor running route, and the feature also provides in-training pace guidance.

Later this year, Race Route will be compatible with Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models. The upcoming watchOS 9.2 release may also include Track Detection, which automatically detects when users have reached the track and combine Apple Maps data with GPS to provide a more accurate roadmap and more accurate pace and distance metrics.

watchOS 9.2 introduces support for the new Home app architecture that was also added to iOS 16.2, iPadOS 16.2 and macOS Ventura.
