Apple Watch update supports pairing and sync with multiple Apple devices

According to MacRumors, a new leak claims that Apple is working on a software update that will allow users to pair their Apple Watch with multiple Apple devices, including the iPhone, iPad and Mac.

Currently, the Apple Watch can only be paired with one iPhone, and while it is possible to pair multiple Apple Watch models with the same iPhone, Apple does not offer the ability to pair or sync the Apple Watch with other devices in the Apple ecosystem.

Once the Apple Watch is paired with an iPhone, it can be used in conjunction with an iPad signed into the same Apple ID to use the Apple Fitness+ workout program on the iPad screen. In addition, Mac users can unlock their computers with the Apple Watch, but this is one of the few exceptions.

However, these restrictions are expected to change. According to Twitter personality @analyst941, Apple is planning to change the pairing/syncing process, meaning that Apple Watch will no longer be limited to a single iPhone, but will be able to sync between multiple iPhones, iPads and Mac devices.

The source didn’t specify exactly how this would work, but iCloud syncing is a possibility, similar to how AirPods work across devices.

The source added that it’s unclear if this change will be released this year with iOS 17, iPadOS 17 and macOS 14, or if it won’t come until 2024.

The source previously leaked accurate information about the Apple iPhone 14 Pro’s “island of movement”, but the validity of the long-running leak is yet to be verified.
