Apple Watch Series 8 display will be 12% larger than the existing 7 generations of the largest models

Previous reports have suggested that the Apple Watch Series 8 will come in three display sizes, the largest of which is expected to surpass the 45mm display of the largest Apple Watch Series 7. Apple currently sells wearables in 45mm and 41mm sizes, and with past predictions that a third member is expected to be added later this year, DSCC CEO and founder Ross Young decided to disclose a wave first.

In response to a question on Twitter about the Apple Watch Series 8 display, the display analyst believes that the upcoming flagship wearable’s screen will increase to 1.99 inches, and if you do a little math, it will reach a diagonal display size of 50.5 mm.

The aforementioned panel will be 12% larger than the 45mm model of the Apple Watch 7 series and 23% larger than the 41mm version of the same model. That’s not all, as the Apple Watch Series 8 is said to come in three versions. One is said to be the regular model, followed by the budget-friendly SE version, and then the ruggedized version, all three of which are expected to be announced along with the iPhone 14 series. However, Young did not mention whether all three versions will feature a 50.5mm display, as this could increase the cost of components.

The larger display will bring some advantages to the wearer, most notably a larger battery, which will allow the Apple Watch Series 8 to run longer. The extra space may also be used to install a body temperature sensor, although this health feature will only be available once it passes Apple’s internal testing. Unfortunately, despite the potentially larger screen area, the upcoming flagship wearable will retain the same SoC as the Apple Watch Series 7 and Apple Watch Series 6.

The Apple Watch Series 8’s 50.5mm display size could also mean it’s the only model with enough room for a body temperature sensor, a feature not available on the smaller version. For now, there’s no way to confirm this change, but most of our questions will be answered when it’s officially announced.
