Apple today released tvOS 16.1 Beta 4 for developers under version number (20K5062a), the latest version of its tvOS operating system for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD. This update comes a week after the last Beta 3 release.

Updates to tvOS are usually minor, focusing on bug fixes and improvements rather than externally oriented changes. No significant new features have been found since beta 1 of tvOS 16.1.

Apple TVs with tvOS 16 installed will later support the smart home protocol Matter when it is launched to improve interoperability between smart home accessories from different companies. Matter 1.0 Smart Home Standard Released, Apple iOS 16.1 to Support

tvOS 16 brings cross-device connectivity, a feature that allows developers to integrate Apple TV apps with iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch apps to unlock new experiences on Apple TV. Multi-user profiles are also improved through the use of shared keychains, meaning users don’t need to sign in and select their profile when launching an Apple TV app.

Apple shared some information about tvOS releases in its tvOS support documentation, which is updated after each tvOS release. tvOS 16 brings enhanced multi-user support, personalized spatial audio when using AirPods, and accessibility improvements.
