Aug. 17 – Apple is in talks to produce the Apple Watch and MacBook in Vietnam for the first time, according to the Nikkei News, as the tech giant seeks to diversify its production regions.

Apple suppliers Lixin Precision and Foxconn have begun trial production of the Apple Watch in northern Vietnam, the first time the device has been made outside of China, according to three people with direct knowledge of the matter, the report said.

In June this year, Apple moved some iPad production from China to Vietnam for the first time ever, due to strict epidemic controls in and around Shanghai. In May, Apple CEO Tim Cook responded to the question of including more Vietnamese companies in Apple’s chain by saying that Apple was interested in working with Vietnamese manufacturers that met the company’s standards.
