Apple will soon open its first official retail store in India, with the Apple Retail Store in Mumbai expected to open later this month. Ahead of the official opening, Apple has shared the first image of the store’s store facade, as well as a special wallpaper to celebrate the occasion.

The store, called “Apple BKC,” is located in Jio World Drive Mall, an upscale shopping mall in the Bandra Kurla Complex, a commercial and residential area of Mumbai, and covers an area of about 22,000 square feet (currently about 2043 square meters). has the architecture of a flagship store, similar to other Apple stores located in major cities such as Los Angeles, New York, Beijing, Milan and Singapore.

Several Apple executives, including retail division head Deirdre O’Brien, will reportedly attend the opening ceremony later this month.

To celebrate the opening of the new stores, Apple has covered the exterior walls with a barrier inspired by Mumbai’s unique “Kaali Peeli” cab art. The art combines “colourful stickers” with illustrations of many Apple products and services, and displays a prominent “Hello Mumbai” message to passersby. Apple also offered special wallpapers based on these illustrations for iPhone, iPad and Mac users, and a special song list on Apple Music featuring the “sounds of Mumbai.

This is an important step for Apple in the Indian market, aiming to increase its presence in the country. After the Mumbai store, Apple is also reportedly planning to open a second retail store in New Delhi.
