Apple’s suppliers are reportedly preparing to produce and ship Apple’s next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. Both devices are reportedly expected to feature the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. Suppliers within Apple’s Mac supply chain are preparing for the shipment of the upcoming MacBook Pro by slowing down the production of existing Macs, the company has learned.
Apple’s suppliers are allegedly similarly slowing down the production of the first-generation AirPods Pro after the announcement of the second-generation AirPods Pro last week.
Apple is expected to update its 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros in the near future, and they will come with the yet-to-be-announced M2 Pro and M2 Max chips. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is planning a Mac- and iPad-centric event next month, and Gurman says development of the updated machines is well underway right now and could launch as soon as this fall.
The new 14-inch and 16-inch models are expected to retain the same design as the model announced in October 2021, but with updated M2 Pro and M2 Max chips for performance and power efficiency. These chips are expected to be built on a 5nm process, and compared to the M1 equivalent, they may increase the number of GPU cores and memory.
In addition to the updated MacBook Pro, Apple may also plan to announce an updated Mac mini – which will feature the M2 chip, a new iPad Pro, and a Mac Pro with Apple silicon – at an event next month.
