Apple releases new firmware 5B59 for AirPods, AirPods Pro and AirPods Max

Apple rolled out a new 5B59 firmware for AirPods 2, AirPods 3, the first generation AirPods Pro and AirPods Max, up from the 5B58 firmware released in November.

Apple did not provide release notes on the content of the AirPods firmware update, but a support document provided by the company with the release information indicates that the 5B59 firmware update makes “bug fixes and other improvements” and has no other details.

There is no standard way to upgrade the AirPods software, but the firmware is usually installed OTA when AirPods are connected to an iOS device. Put the AirPods in the charging case, connect them to a power source, and pair the AirPods with an iPhone or iPad and you should be able to perform the upgrade.

The AirPods or AirPods Pro firmware by following these steps.

  • Connect AirPods or AirPods Pro to your iOS device.
  • Open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap on AirPods.
  • Look at the number next to “Firmware Version”
