Apple Music has problem: Songs that support spatial audio need to be synced through desktop app

Foreign technology media MacWorld in its latest article pointed out a problem with the Apple Music service: songs that support spatial audio need to be synced through desktop devices.

Article editor Daryl Baxter says he’s been a Spotify user for a long time and recently wanted to try out Apple Music’s spatial audio features, so he opened a 3-month trial period. But the results weren’t to his satisfaction.

He found playlists in Apple Music that supported spatial audio, but a large percentage of those songs were grayed out and unplayable. He couldn’t play or download the songs even after clicking on them.

He gets an error message after clicking, and Apple requires that the iPhone be connected to a PC or Mac device with Apple Music or iTunes installed before the songs will sync.

He speculated that this might be because Apple Music is trying to process the tracks you’ve already downloaded to avoid confusion with the same tracks on the server that supports spatial audio. In the end, he closed the Apple Music app and continued to use Spotify without spatial audio.
