As expected, TSMC will start mass production of 3nm chips in the second half of 2022, when we could see a new series of flagship processors, such as the Apple M2 Pro, IT House said on June 27.
According to DigiTimes, TSMC will manufacture Apple’s “M2 Pro” and “M3” chips based on its 3nm process.
“Apple has reportedly booked TSMC capacity for its upcoming 3nm M3 and M2 Pro processors,” DigiTimes said in a report.
IT House has reported that Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has also said in his latest newsletter that he expects the M2 Pro to be used in the 14-inch MacBook Pro, 16-inch MacBook Pro and high-end Mac mini.
As for the M3, Gurman expects the chip to be used in the next generation 13-inch MacBook Air, the new 15-inch MacBook Air, the new iMac and possibly the new 12-inch MacBook.
YouTuber @Max Tech also says that Apple’s M2 Pro is indeed a 3nm process build.
As of now, TSMC will be mass producing 3nm process by the end of the year, so Apple’s M2 Pro coming at the end of the year or early next year will see a significant performance boost, and the performance difference between the M2 and M2 is expected to be greater than that between the M1 Pro and M1.
