Apple is working with LG to customize the production of microLED screens for Apple Watch

Screen supply chain consulting company DSCC CEO Ross Young in the latest tweet, Apple for the follow-up Apple Watch custom microLED screen will be handed over to LG production.

Ross Young said in a tweet that LG Display is building a small-scale production line to provide microLED screens for Apple. Apple is expected to switch to microLED screens in the Apple Watch, which will launch in the spring of 2025.

Ross Young said that LG Display will start mass production in the second half of 2024, supplying microLED panels to Apple and assembling Apple Watch screen components for Apple.

Bloomberg previously reported that Apple will transition to its own custom displays starting with the Apple Watch Ultra’s microLED displays in late 2024, with the long-term goal of reducing its reliance on display suppliers such as Samsung and LG. Young believes that Apple will continue to rely to some extent on such partners. “Apple won’t make the screens entirely in-house,” Young said.
