Apple’s Neural Rendering Research Team released a job announcement last week showing that it is looking for a Neural Rendering Research Scientist to help Apple build fully immersive 3D experiences in AR / VR.

Apple’s requirements for this position are very high, with at least one published paper at a top conference such as CVPR/ECCV/ICCV/SIGGRAPH/NeurIPS, a PhD in computer vision, computer graphics, machine learning or a related field, and proficiency in Python and deep learning frameworks (PyTorch or similar).

"The Neural Rendering research team is part of the Video Computer Vision (VCV) team, an applied research and engineering organization responsible for developing real-time device computer vision and machine perception technologies for Apple products."
"The mission of the Neural Rendering research team is to build fully immersive 3D experiences in AR / VR. We believe that neural rendering will be a fundamental driving force for these experiences in the next decade. As an applied research team, we are responsible for Apple's neural rendering research and have a practical focus on developing and exploring cutting-edge algorithms for reconstruction, view compositing, animation, editing, and automated generation of realistic 3D scenes and Avatars, among other applications."

For the main role of this position, Apple describes it as

The Neural Rendering research team is part of Video Computer Vision (VCV), a centralized applied research and engineering organization responsible for developing real-time device-side computer vision and machine perception technologies across Apple products.

Existing rumors suggest that Apple is already working on an XR headset, which is expected to be released sometime in 2023. The product will allegedly have a system specific to the series, called xrOS, and like Apple TV and Apple Watch, it will also have a dedicated App Store and ecosystem.
