Apple’s differentiation strategy between the standard and Pro versions of the iPhone 15 is not only exclusive to the A17 bionic chip, but also different from the standard version in terms of network. It is said that iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will support Wi-Fi 6E, while the standard version will not. Wi-Fi 6E is an enhanced version of Wi-Fi 6, where the “E” stands for “Extended”. “Wi-Fi 6E extends the capabilities of Wi-Fi 6 to the 6 GHz band, including higher concurrency, lower latency and greater bandwidth.

The 6GHz band is a globally harmonized block of contiguous spectrum that extends from 5925MHz to 7125MHz for a total of 1200MHz of spectrum, meaning an additional seven 160MHz channels or 14 80MHz channels or 29 40MHz channels or 59 20MHz channels are available.

Compared with 2.4GHz and 5GHz, the 6GHz band has more spectrum resources than the first two combined. The additional channels will ease the problem of channel congestion and improve the concurrency.

However, 6GHz also has its own disadvantages, because the wavelength of the 6GHz band is shorter. Short wavelengths are suitable for high-speed transmission, but not for long-distance transmission and greater attenuation.

In addition to supporting Wi-Fi 6E, the iPhone 15 Pro series will also support eSIM. This time, Apple plans to remove the SIM slot from the European iPhone 15 series and upgrade it to support eSIM at the same time.
