Apple iPhone 14/14 Plus is the same generation as the iPhone 13 series?

The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have received a major overhaul with the A16 chip.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have no major changes, and the processor is still A15 or A15 enhanced version.

According to the Apple mobile device model codes published in the latest beta version of Apple Xcode, the iPhone 14 series model codes are as follows.

  • iPhone14:iPhone14,7
  • iPhone14 Plus:iPhone14,8
  • iPhone14 Pro:iPhone15,2
  • iPhone14 Pro Max:iPhone15,3

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have the same model code as the iPhone 13 / Pro series and are part of the “iPhone 14” generation.

In fact, this is not surprising, according to Apple’s model code rules, models equipped with the same generation of processor, the model code belongs to the same generation. For example, the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c were released a year apart, but both are equipped with the A6 chip, so the model code is “iPhone 5” series.

We will also see iPhone 14,7 (iPhone 14) and iPhone 14,8 (iPhone 14 Plus) in performance testing and development scenarios in the future.

Apple’s iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus retain much of the design of the iPhone 13 — including the bangs notch for the phone’s selfie camera and Face ID sensor — and are available in five colorways: midnight, purple, starburst, red, and blue.

Both iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus feature the more powerful A15 Bionic chip than last year’s iPhone 13. The upgrade is a GPU upgrade from 4-core to a full-blooded 5-core version for smoother graphics in video apps and high-performance games. It also features a 6-core CPU for smooth and efficient processing of performance-critical tasks and a 16-core neural network engine that does 15.8 trillion operations per second to speed up machine learning in third-party apps and iOS 16.
