According to the latest report published by market research firm TechInsights, the global tablet market shipped 44.2 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022, down 8 percent year-on-year.

Apple and Samsung were the only two companies to show positive growth in the quarter. Apple shipped 18.1 million iPads in 4Q2022, up 15 percent year-over-year, capturing 41 percent of the market. Apple shipped 63.5 million iPads in 2022, down 3 percent year-over-year, and held a 39 percent market share.

Samsung shipped 7.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2022, up 5 percent year-over-year, capturing a 17 percent market share. Samsung shipped 30.2 million units in 2022, down 4 percent year-over-year, with a 19 percent market share.

Amazon, Lenovo and Huawei are in third, fourth and fifth place, respectively.

Eric Smith, head of TechInsights Connected Computing, said.

"Apple's iPad business is doing better compared to last year, when supply chain issues severely limited their shipments.

Apple also introduced the latest iPad Pro with the M2 chip and the 10th generation iPad, pushing the global average price up to $520.

Samsung has also done very well with the Galaxy Tab S8 series. The high-end market is less at risk from inflation as users look for computing devices to get work done remotely.

Samsung is aggressively driving an ecosystem strategy of phones, tablets, PCs and wearables to attract more users through cross-device marketing and features."
