Apple explains why AirPods Pro 2 silicone earbuds are not compatible with first gen

0

Apple explained why the silicone earbuds for the second-generation AirPods Pro no longer fit the first-generation AirPods Pro. In a support document updated today, Apple said the first-generation AirPods Pro silicone earbuds have a “significantly denser grid” than the second-generation AirPods Pro. Apple did not provide any additional details, but the grid density may cause acoustic differences.

The silicone earbuds are custom-designed specifically for each generation of AirPods Pro to provide the highest fidelity audio experience,” the support documentation reads. For this reason, Apple recommends that users choose the included silicone earbuds when using AirPods Pro. The initial AirPods Pro silicone earbuds have a significantly denser grid compared to the second generation.

Despite the grid differences, the second-generation AirPods Pro silicone earbuds can also be equipped to work with the first-generation AirPods Pro as they are still physically compatible. The second generation of AirPods Pro introduces the XS model, while the first generation only comes in S, M and L models. Currently, on Apple’s website, 2 pairs of silicone earbuds are available for CNY 59 and ship in 2-3 weeks.
