Apple boosted development of Made in India smartphones towards high-end

Market research firm Counterpoint Research has reported that Apple’s contribution to the development of “Made in India” smartphone shipments has reached 25 percent based on revenue.

The study points out that overall Made in India smartphone shipments declined 19% year-on-year in 4Q2022 and 3% year-on-year in 2022 due to weak local demand.

Exports are the highest contributor to Made in India smartphones, accounting for 20% of shipments and 30% of exports.

Thanks to the trend of “premiumization” in India and the increase in exports of high-end smartphones represented by Apple’s iPhone, the amount of “Made in India” smartphone shipments increased by 34% year-on-year.

Apple’s “Made in India” shipments grew 65 percent year-over-year and revenue grew 162 percent year-over-year, pushing the brand’s value share from 12 percent in 2021 to 25 percent in 2022.

OPPO leads “Made in India” smartphone shipments with a 22 percent share in 2022, with Samsung in second place. Bharat FIH remains the largest EMS vendor in terms of smartphone shipments in 2022.
