Apple App Store Developers Generated $1.1 Trillion in Business and Sales Last Year

Apple today issued a press release stating that it will continue to promote and improve the App Store ecosystem in 2022, helping developers generate $1.1 trillion (currently about RMB 7.79 trillion) in business and sales.

Apple sponsored Analysis Group economists to compile statistics on App Store developer billing and sales, further highlighting the strengths of the App Store ecosystem and the many developers who have helped make it a success.

  • Developer sales and revenue grew 27% between 2019 and 2020; 27% between 2020 and 2021; and 29 percent between 2021 and 2022.
  • In 2022, 23% of new small and midsize developers worldwide will come from China.
  • The App Store’s commerce engine provides a global distribution platform for more than 36 million Apple-registered developers around the world, supporting more than 195 local payment methods and 44 currencies across 175 storefronts.
  • In 2022, the App Store will attract an average of more than 650 million visitors per week, and in 2022, users will download new apps an average of 747 million times and redownload apps an average of 1.5 billion times per week.
  • In 2022, sales of iOS travel apps jumped 84 percent and sales of online car apps jumped 45 percent.
