Apple announces self-service repair for M1 MacBook Air / Pro

In April, Apple announced the launch of Self Service Repair, which allows customers to access repair manuals and original parts and tools through the Apple Self Service Store, enabling experienced customers to complete repairs on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series and the iPhone SE (3rd generation).

Apple announced that it will offer self-service repair for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro laptops with M1 Series chips tomorrow.

Apple said the self-service repair program will expand to MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with M1 Series chips starting tomorrow, providing customers with repair manuals and genuine Apple parts and tools through the Apple Self-Service Store. iPhone Self-Service was launched earlier this year. The program will be expanded to include more Mac models later this year and will be rolled out in other countries, starting in Europe.

The self-service repair program for MacBook Air and MacBook Pro offers more than a dozen different repair types for each model, including displays, upper cases including batteries, trackpads and more, with more types to come. Customers with experience repairing complex electronic devices will have access to the same parts and tools as Apple Retail Stores and Apple Authorized Service Providers to complete repairs on these Mac notebooks on their own.

To begin the self-service repair, customers must first visit support.apple.com/self-service-repair to review the repair manual for the product to be repaired. Then they can visit the Apple Self-Service Repair Store to order the parts and tools they need.

All Apple Genuine Parts are designed and manufactured for specific products and are rigorously tested to ensure the highest levels of quality, safety, and reliability. Customers can return replacement parts to Apple for refurbishment and recycling. In many cases, customers who do so receive discounts on future Apple products.

Apple tools are specifically designed to help make the most efficient repairs to Apple products and to withstand the intense professional work that safety and reliability are paramount to. So customers who only need to make one-time repairs and don’t want to buy tools can also get these professional repair tools. Customers can rent the tool sets for one week and pay no shipping costs.

In the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations where genuine Apple parts, tools and training are available, including more than 3,500 independent repair providers. A global network of more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers supports more than 100,000 on-staff technicians. As a result, eight out of 10 Apple customers in the United States can reach an authorized service provider near them in just 20 minutes.
