Apple Announces Mac Studio with M2 Max and M2 Ultra, Starting at $1999

The first-generation Mac Studio will be launched in 2021, using M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips, and exists as a Mac Pro replacement in the product line. At today’s Apple WWDC 2023 conference, Apple released the M2 Max and M2 Ultra chips and updated Mac Studio to the M2 Max and Ultra versions.

According to Apple, the performance of Mac Studio equipped with M2 Max is 25% higher than that of the previous generation M1 Max model, and when using Adobe After Effect software for rendering, the rendering speed can be increased by 50%, compared with the current most powerful Intel iMac ( Note: i9-10910) performance has been improved by 4 times. Compared with the current most powerful Intel iMac, the performance of M2 Ultra Studio has been improved by 6 times. Compared with the previous generation of M1 Ultra products, the CPU performance has been increased by 20%, and the GPU performance has been increased by 30%. It can smoothly decode Apple ProRes image format. Apple says the new Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip is up to three times faster than the previous Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra chip. In terms of exterior design, the Mac Studio of the M2 is not much different from the old Mac Studio.

The M2 Max version of Mac Studio features a 12-core CPU and 30-core GPU, supporting up to 96 GB of RAM. The M2 Ultra basic version of Mac Studio has a 24-core CPU, 60-core GPU and up to 192GB of RAM, and users can customize Mac Studio with up to 76-core GPU and 192 GB of unified memory.

Apple says the “new Mac Studio is aimed at professional users who tackle demanding tasks like video editing and 3D rendering.”

 The new Mac Studio features extensive connectivity with higher bandwidth HDMI for resolutions up to 8K 240Hz. With the M2 Ultra, Mac Studio supports up to 6 Pro Display XDRs, providing plenty of screen real estate for professional workflows.

 Plus, it now features advanced built-in wireless technology. Wi-Fi 6E offers twice the download speed of the previous generation, while Bluetooth 5.3 allows users to connect to the latest Bluetooth accessories.

 On the back, Mac Studio includes four Thunderbolt 4 ports, a 10Gb Ethernet port, an enhanced HDMI port, and two USB-A ports, and also features two USB-C ports and an SD card slot on the front for easy import photos and videos.

It is learned that the new Mac Studio with the M2 Max chip starts at $1,999 accepts pre-orders today, and starts shipping on June 13 and launching at Apple’s official retail store.
