According to Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman reported that Apple plans to update the AirPods Pro with a charging case equipped with a USB-C connector during the “Wanderlust” event on Tuesday, September 12, but no other hardware changes to the headphones are expected. No other hardware changes are expected for the headphones.
In his latest Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman said he believes Apple will eventually add a USB-C port to all of its AirPods lineup, but that the AirPods Pro will be the first headphones to come with a new charging case.
Mark Gurman had previously reported that Apple would release updated AirPods with a USB-C port charging case, and that the new iPhone 15 line of phones would also switch from Lightning to USB-C, but at the time he didn’t specify whether it would be the AirPods or the AirPods Pro.
It was previously reported that iOS 17 will bring some new features to the AirPods Pro, but software-based, while new hardware-based hearing aids will be introduced in the future. Mark Gurman also said he expects the price of the low-end AirPods to drop when the USB-C port becomes commonplace in other products.
