Android 14 screen recording function upgrade: can record a single application

The Android 14 Beta version has been opened to some smartphones. Google recently pushed the second Beta version update. Some netizens discovered some privacy protection features in the new system.

Currently, native Android’s screen recording feature allows users to turn off sound recording and hide touch actions. The new screen recording feature in Android 14 will allow users to limit the scope of recording to a single application, and can choose not to record any system UI elements or notifications.

Mishaal Rahman took to Twitter to show how these two features work. When the user clicks on a single application to screen record, the recently opened applications will be displayed, and the user can also view the complete application list. If the user quits the app during recording, the screen goes black until the user returns to the app, so that the user’s actions in other apps are not recorded. Also, notification messages that pop up will not be recorded.

Alternatively, users can choose to record everything but hide sensitive information, such as the notification bar. During recording, the entire status bar is hidden.

Some Android customization systems currently provide some screen recording functions related to privacy protection, such as Samsung’s OneUI, but this is the first time these functions have been implemented on native Android.
