AMD Zen4 gets AVX-512 instruction set, performance soars by 2.5x

The AMD Zen4-based Ryzen 7000 series will support Intel AVX-512 for the first time. Although it is only a part rather than the whole, it is also a major breakthrough, especially the Intel 12/13 generation Core cannot open this instruction set because of the hybrid architecture. First served is extraordinary. AVX-512 has been born for many years, but the application range has not been large. The most familiar to ordinary players is probably the ultra-high power consumption of the ultimate roaster.

According to AMD’s official statement, the Zen4 AVX-512 instruction set is mainly used for AI and HPC application acceleration, the multi-threaded performance of FP32 floating-point inference can be improved by up to 1.3 times, and the multi-threaded performance of INT8 integer inference can be improved by up to 2.5 times.

Joey (Wunkolo), a graphics engineer from Riot Games, is very interested in the support of the AMD Zen4 AVX-512 instruction set, and has added corresponding optimizations to a series of emulators.

Specifically include: Switch emulator Yuzu, 3DS emulator Citra, PS Vita emulator Vita3K, Xbox 360 emulator Xenia.

If you use the Ryzen 7000 series platform to run these simulators, it will bring a very obvious performance improvement, but the specific improvement is not stated.

According to experience, when the 12th generation Core Duo could still use AVX-512 at first, the performance of the PS3 emulator RPCS3 increased by up to 30%, but then Intel forcibly blocked the 12th generation Core Duo’s AVX-512.
