AMD Ryzen Z1 series and 7040U series processors have highly similar specifications

Asus ROG Ally gaming handhelds are equipped with Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor specifications, and AMD recently released Ryzen 7040U series processors are basically similar, especially Ryzen 7 7840U and Ryzen Z1 Extreme basically the same.

Tom’s Hardware’s Andrew E. Freedman consulted AMD officials with this question and got a response that the two have obvious similarities, but AMD engineers have tweaked the Z1 APU.

AMD PR Manager Matthew Hurwitz’s response is as follows:

The Ryzen Z1 series was designed specifically for gaming handhelds.

AMD engineers validated a new power range and optimized the voltage profile specifically for gaming scenarios to achieve this goal.

The Ryzen 7040 series and Ryzen Z1 series have similar technology building blocks (also based on Zen 4 and RDNA 3), but are targeted at different usage scenarios. In addition, the Ryzen Z1 series does not have the XDNA AI engine.
