In the developer’s CPU ranking table, AMD Ryzen 9 7950X has become the best choice for Sony PS3 emulator RPCS3. AMD’s latest processors outperform all competitors, including Intel. Also, RPCS3 just got AVX-512 support a few days ago, and luckily for open-source emulators, AMD’s latest Zen 4 microarchitecture supports AVX-512 instructions.

The Sony PlayStation console is built on the Cell processor, containing a common Power core and eight SPEs, or co-processing elements, featuring an instruction set architecture with 128-bit SIMD organization and in-order execution, patented by Sony Electronics. The Cell CPU provides the direct equivalent and large file registers supported by the AVX-512 multicore processor. Additionally, the LLVM compiler can choose the best code path for the compiler to execute, providing a 30% performance boost.

Features of AMD Ryzen 7000 Desktop Processors:

Up to 16 Zen 4 cores and 32 threads

29% performance improvement for single-threaded applications.

New Zen 4 CPU cores (IPC/architectural improvements).

New TSMC 5nm process node and 6nm IOD

Compared with Zen 3, the performance per watt is improved by 25%, the overall performance is improved by more than 35%, and the number of instructions per clock (IPC) is improved by about 13%.

Support AM5 platform with LGA1718 socket

New X670E, X670, B650E, B650 motherboards

Support dual channel DDR5 memory

DDR5-5600 native speed (JEDEC)

28 PCIe lanes (for CPU only)

105-120W TDPs (up to 170W)

While current PC hardware can emulate a Sony PS3 console, RPCS3 can further increase the frames-per-second experience through AMD’s FidelityFX super-resolution technology.

While comparison testing of AMD Ryzen 9 7950X CPUs to Intel Core i9-13900K is still ongoing, there is a lot of speculation that AMD will dominate the gaming esports market next with the help of AVX-512 support, especially in display With a 30% performance increase.
